Introduction
What this book is and how to read it
Axio is a book in progress. It is being built from the Axio blog, which between 2022 and 2026 accumulated nearly six hundred essays on agency, value, and the structures — physical, epistemic, ethical, economic, political, and cultural — that agency requires. The blog was the laboratory; this book is the considered statement.
The material is organized into nine volumes, ordered roughly from foundations to applications. The early volumes establish what agency is in physical and epistemic terms. The middle volumes take up minds, machines, and the theory of value. The later volumes apply the framework to economics, politics, and culture, and close with the question of meaning.
Each chapter is a reworking of one or more blog posts: merged, revised, and cross-linked, with the connective tissue a book requires. Where a chapter compresses a longer technical record, it links out to the original posts and to the research papers for readers who want the full argument.
Volumes are published incrementally as they are drafted. Chapters marked draft or review are readable but still changing; unfinished volumes appear in the table of contents as in preparation.
